The model collection
refurbishment and
relocation project
has been completed.
A team headed by
Jimmy & Cheryol
Miller, which
includes Jim Beal,
Ralph Lozier, Fred
Larson, Larry Carr,
Jim Kitts, Jeff
Edmondson, Bill
Hunt, and Hal &
Norma Kahl has
opened all the
boxes, removed all
the aircraft and
dusted and cleaned
them all. Some had
minor maintenance
due, but so far,
none really required
a trip to the
depot for major
overhaul.
One of the biggest
challenges was to
properly identify
them all as there
are quite a few
aircraft that were
in the collection
that had various
models that had to
be identified.
Once each aircraft
was IDd, it was
included in a new
inventory which was
not available. Jim
Kitts & Fred Larson
assisted the team in
making
identification and
proper cataloging of
many of the
aircraft.
The Mansfield
Memorial Museum
(Curator, Mr. Scott
Shaut) has been
working with the
group to establish a
location to house a
part of the model
collection. The
area is being worked
on at the Museum to
eventually house the
collection.
UNIT HISTORY
TEAM
The Air Force and
Air National Guard,
in their infinite
wisdom, have
eliminated the
position of Base
Historian.
Unfortunately, the
collection and
maintenance of every
units history is
very important and
needs to be done.
The Shadow Flight,
in conjunction with
the Base Executive
Officer, Major Phil
Brown, has agreed to
step up to the plate
and work to help
preserve the history
documentation of the
179th.
Ralph Lozier has
agreed to step up to
take on this project
and is in need of
assistance. He
plans on starting
shortly after the 1st
of the year on
completing the
organization of the
storage/research
area thats been
started.
If you can assist
and are willing to
work with Ralph on
this very important
on-going process,
please let him know.
